Keith Jones is a Fellow of the UK Association of Average Adjusters (AAA) having qualified in 1984 and was the Chairman from 2012/14, as well as being the Chairman of the Dublin based International Marine Claims Conference for several years. Keith started his career at Richards Hogg International and managed offices in Manila, Philippines before returning to London to qualify, join the partnership, and then move to Piraeus, Greece, once qualified, to operate the office there. Keith managed the office in Greece for 12 years before returning to London.He was subsequently recruited by one of the large broking companies to open their London average adjusting operation in 2001, and joined another broking house sometime after, before opening his own adjusting company in April 2024. He also assists with marine claims handling generally, offering his knowledge and expertise to claims brokers, and involved underwriters, with problematic claims, bespoke clause drafting and complete policy wording for Owners conditions.Keith has sat on various Market committees regarding hull clauses and market wordings as well as AAA committees and keenly mentors candidates for the AAA exams. Keith also lectures on marine claims topics and writes articles for the shipping press and Club publications.Generally appointed by ship-owners, underwriters, admiralty solicitors and Clubs, Keith advises and assists with claims adjustment, policy wordings and queries as well as expert witness appointments. As a Fellow of the AAA, he has direct access to the English bar, which is a practical way to obtain legal opinions, thereby assisting with determining appropriate courses of action to be taken.Average Adjusters are experts in marine insurance and law, who may be appointed by any party in a marine claim or dispute. Irrespective of the identity of the instructing party, the Average Adjuster is bound to act in an impartial and independent manner. By experience and training, Average Adjusters are therefore problem-solvers and mediators.
